Our Story

A story of nature, community and resilience.

Outeniqua Game Farm is family-owned, nestled in the heart of the Outeniqua Mountains. Our journey began in 2012 when we acquired the land that would become Outeniqua Game Farm. We were driven by a desire to create a space where people could connect with nature, culture and community and experience the transformative beauty of the outdoors. We envisioned creating a self-sustaining, nature-centric, community-enhancing experience.

Our commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement has been at the heart of our mission from the very beginning. Over time, we developed our property aiming towards creating our eco-friendly farm-to-table concept, where we strive to produce the best quality meat for our restaurant and produce while minimising our impact on the environment. We take pride in being self-sufficient and off-grid, using sustainable practices such as solar power and rainwater harvesting and potted water on the farm.

In 2016, we faced a devastating setback when wildfires swept through the area and destroyed much of our property, leaving destruction and loss in its wake. However, through the hard work of our team and the support of our community, near and far, we overcame this challenge and emerged stronger than ever. Today our farm stands as a testament to the resilience of nature and the power of community and perseverance.

At Outeniqua Game Farm, we pride ourselves on our values which are at the heart of everything we do. Our core values of sustainability, community, and authenticity guide us in creating a space that enriches the lives of all who visit us.

Sustainability: We aim to be a self-sustaining, off-grid destination, utilising solar energy and natural resources as much as possible. We source our ingredients from local suppliers, we grow much of our fresh produce in our tunnels, and all of our meat is produced and processed on site. We believe in responsible stewardship of the land and work to protect and preserve the natural beauty of the region.

We are passionate about our conservation efforts; working to eradicate the alien invasive black wattle trees on our farm. These trees are not only an environmental hazard but also pose a significant threat to our natural ecosystem. By removing them, we are creating a more sustainable and healthy environment for our wildlife and visitors.
